Chen Qing

President
Chen Qing, a Commerce graduate from Saint Mary’s University, founded Hometown Furniture & Mattress after selling two movie tickets he won online, turned a good profit, and realized that he had a found a niche market in Halifax: the Chinese and international student population. He then began selling his possessions and flipping second-hand mattresses and old appliances. Since mattresses were his best seller, Chen contacted manufacturers to secure supplier agreements. Now, seven years later he has deals with more than 10 national mattress and furniture suppliers, 16 employees, and 3 full size stores in Eastern Canada.

Hometown Furniture, we make living affordable!

Showroom 2015 - 2016 Chen's fourth showroom. Chen moved to his new showroom at
6054 Almon St in Dec/2015.With 6000 square foot retail space and two more Canadian furniture suppliers Mazin Furniture and A class, Chen's business has boomed significantly.

The Front showroom is focusing more on Contemporary and high end furniture and mattresses, while the back showroom is targeting more middle to low end furniture.

Hometown Furniture & Mattress Ltd is the only store in downtown Halifax that carries all levels of furniture and mattress. It is truly a one stop shop that customers could purchase bedroom, dining room, living room, office and mattresses in a local furniture store.

Showroom 2013
Chen's third showroom. Chen moved the business to a 2,500 square foot penthouse showroom on South Street in August 2013 and began selling furniture.

Showroom 2012
Chen's second showroom. Chen successfully negotiated contracts with Simmons, Sealy and Springwall mattress. Finally, he had his own suppliers. From this point Chen started to sell only brand new, brand name mattresses.

Showroom 2011
Chen's first showroom. He rented a small 800 square foot apartment as a showroom and started selling second-hand mattresses. Chen did not have a warehouse to stock inventory so if a customer wanted to buy a mattress he would deliver the mattress to the customer himself.
